As a bilingual Spanish-speaking, bicultural therapist in the behavioral health field for over 15 years, I have had the privilege of working with individuals and families from diverse cultures, ethnic groups and backgrounds. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) from California State University, Los Angeles and my Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) with a Concentration in Mental Health from San Diego State University. My areas of expertise include treating high-risk children and youth with emotional and behavioral problems as well as children, youth and adult survivors of abuse & trauma. Nowadays, I enjoy working with children (ages 6+), youth & adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, complex family dynamics, relationship difficulties, women’s issues and phase of life transitions. I am also very familiar with the struggles of immigrant families and the stress & challenges of military life.
I am a firm believer that one approach does NOT fit all; therefore, I utilize evidence-based treatment tailored to each individual’s needs, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Client Centered and Trauma-Informed Care. My background in social work allows me to see the person within the larger context of their environment in order to best understand their specific needs. My therapeutic style is compassionate but empowering, with a humanistic approach. I tend to listen for ways that any past traumas and/or attachment disruptions may be connected to one’s current struggles. I am aware that finding the right therapist is crucial and that feeling safe, heard, understood is essential for positive growth and healing. I applaud people’s courage in taking the first step in seeking help and look forward to working alongside them on their journey.
